Ruim negentig kinderen kwamen af op de NEC Open Talentendag. Kinderen van wel elf verschillende clubs uit de regio. Rond vier uur begon het hoofdveld van JVC Cuijk vol te stromen met kinderen van zes tot en met twaalf jaar. Zij mochten zich eerst melden in de JVC-kantine, waar ze een NEC-poster en stickers kregen en ook nog een half jaar gratis lidmaatschap van de NEC jeugdclub.
Op het hoofdveld waren acht uitdagende voetbalstations uitgezet. Bij elk station stond een trainer van NEC en een trainer van JVC. Over het veld verspreid liepen vijf scouts van NEC rond. Zij speurden tussen alle energieke, enthousiaste voetballertjes naar die jongens of meisjes die bij NEC een paar keer stage mogen lopen.
Het was een genot om te zien hoe gedreven en gepassioneerd op alle stations door de spelertjes getraind en geleerd werd. De NEC- en JVC-trainers strooiden met complimenten en tips. Het enthousiasme van alle spelertjes werd verdubbeld toen ook nog de officiële NEC-mascotte ‘Bikkel’ voor een fotomoment het veld betrad.
De centrale afsluiting door NEC-coördinator Jop Pepping was een compliment voor alle deelnemers en hun begeleiders. De groepsfoto voor de JVC-tribune was exemplarisch voor deze talentendag: “Kinderen met rode wangen en een grote glimlach op hun gezicht”.
